It’s been six months …

Today is March 3. Twelve months ago today Rocky had recovered from his amputation and was resting after having his first round of chemo a few days earlier. I was full of hope. Eleven months ago today was April 3, a Monday. Rocky was doing great and I was contemplating physical therapy for him. Ten months ago today was May 3, a Wednesday. And Rocky got groomed for the second time post-amputation. Nine months ago today … you get the point.

Well, today is March 3. Six months since Sept. 3. And six months since Rocky went to the Bridge. It feels like it was just 10 minutes ago his back leg went out on him. Yet, somehow, it also feels like 10 years ago. Time can be just as illogical as cancer.

A lot has changed. There’s a new dog patrolling Rocky’s back yard now. And Baxter isn’t as forgiving about squirrels and rabbits invading as Rocky was. But a lot has remained unchanged. The love for my dog being chief among those things.

  1. I don’t think the love for your dog will ever change.

Hopefully the pain of your loss will ease.

  2. Yes, time is for sure illogical….I’ve blogged that thought so often. It seems like yesterday that Nitro left, and it seems like a lifetime ago at the same time. As you know, things are different at our house too. As much as we might not want to, embracing the change is all we can do. That, and remembering our heart-dogs with love. Wishing you peace….

    1. It really is strange how grief distorts time. That’s been a common theme in the pet loss support chat rooms too.

  3. Awww….We miss sweet Rocky too. We do. And yet we still get to celebrate this wonderful dog and smile as you continue to keep the essence of who Rocky is alive.

And. E V E R Y T I M E. I see Rocky’s banner (and I see it a lot) I ALWAYS remember how loved he is and how much joy the two of you share. Rocky ABSOLUTELY knew he was loved and knew he had you wrapped around his paw.

Rocky, you tell Baxter to ease up on the little bunnies!! After all, Easter is coming and we need Easter Bunnies!

Thanks for sharing Rocky with us, then and now.

    1. I don’t think that’s going to happen with the bunnies (or squirrels).

I took Baxter for a walk the other day and he spotted a bunny in a yard. I had to pull and drag him away. He stood up on his rear legs trying to get to it. Funny thing is, the bunny just sat there. Didn’t run or anything.

I finally got him away. But the house next door had a ceramic bunny next to its mailbox. Baxter started charging after it before he realized it wasn’t real.

  4. DAVID! I just eent back and read The Gree way vlog. I don’t know how I missed it!

I really just want to say “ditto” to everything Rene said in her post.

You expressed everything so well about “the Greenway” and all your remembrances and emotions that you had there. Bitter…and…sweet.

I love that Rocky always stayed with you. He had such trust and confidence with you…And you with him.

Two peas securely and furever snuggled in a pod! 🙂

Thank you for sharing those special times you had Rocky had rogether.

I also read the Greenway. It’s beautiful and sad all at once. You and Rocky both enjoyed each other’s company to the max, we feel that through and through! Your love is immeasurable, just like the time we are standing in… Big lesson David, we have to love hard when we can and you and Rocky did it to the max!!!
I never would have guessed that you’re shy David, you sure don’t sound shy around here! 😉
Maybe Baxter will go a little slower at the Greenway and a little Missy might be able to keep up? 😉
Rocky is with us all month long on our Calendar, he is smiling at us and gets a good morning every day! How lovely is that?!
I hope Rocky has a bunch of good stories to tell you… keep that pen handy!
All the best to you David
